The Southern Route
A New Year brings a New Route! The Piccadilly has expanded beyond just Western Massachusetts! I am thrilled to introduce the PPAT South route! This thoughtfully designed collection of dirt roads, complemented by some impressive paved segments, is now finalized and ready for your riding enjoyment.
ABOUT THE ROUTE
The route is segmented into four parts, with The Vanilla Bean Cafe acting as a central point for two of these areas. Additionally, there’s an exciting chance to ride out to Block Island for those eager to embrace a taste of island life. A connector route is also available, enabling access to the PPAT South via the original PPAT route. The total distance for all the tracks is 497 miles, including the connector route, and is almost evenly spread between eastern Connecticut and western Rhode Island.
In the waypoint list, you will discover a thorough compilation of local hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, and other helpful stops along the journey. All sections are considered suitable for larger bikes; however, it’s essential to remember that conditions may fluctuate throughout the year. Many dirt roads are residential, and around 30% are categorized as “not winter maintained.” There are also several “hard” sections marked as distinct tracks.
The challenging parts of this trail are not recommended for beginners or those on larger bikes. If you decide to tackle these sections, be ready to push your limits on some tough terrain.
Keep in mind that access to specific areas may vary over time, so it’s important to stay vigilant while moving through zones that could have residences and pedestrians. Should you encounter any difficulties with downloading the tracks or using them, please reach out to us via the FB group or through this messaging system.
